The Society of Jesuits in Clare Valley have come up with another stunner of a wine. If you are lucky enough to still have some of this in your cellar, then now is definitely the time to enjoy it. To my mind it is at its peak and will continue on this plateau for the next couple of years, but heck, we cellar wine to enjoy them at their best, so if you've got some, treat yourself! Brother John describes the wine as "big" with full blackcurrent and berry flavours with hints of chocolate and spice. A bit of an understatement, it is a huge wine. I used to enjoy the odd cigar in my younger days. This has cuban cigar flavours/tannins with good balance of fruit and packs a punch to grow hairs on your chest. None of your whimp Pinot Noir delicacy here! The two of us enjoyed it with a lamb roast and an hour later, suddenly the bottle was empty.
Sevenhill Cellars produce a consistent and reasonably priced selection of wines. Unfortunately the Cabernet and Shiraz, do not seem to be around much these days. there is some 2002 St Ignacious doing the rounds at the moment and can be picked up for a low as $19.95. Buy it if you can.
