There were two bottles in the cellar. The first when opened smelled slightly cork tainted. Decanted and warmed, it was obviously faulted so we opened the other bottle. How different that tasted. The Australian Gold Book deemed this wine as past it's best, but we thought it tasted just marvellous. The back label said it could be cellared for 25 years and apart from the dangers of bad corks, I would agree with that estimate. Best described as a "chewey" wine it had great texture and density. Blackberry fruit flavours with hints of cigar box, leathery tannins. Top wine and showing no signs of decline. Current vintage is 2005 with a cellaring potential of 15 years. Now bottled under screwcap at least you won't have to suffer it being corked after cellaring it for 12 years! I haven't seen any around and a quick look on the web failed to turn up any bottle shops stocking it in NZ. Recommended if you can find it. For more information on Baileys visit:
