Chateau Plagnac Medoc 1986
Sunday night with roast chicken in the oven we looked for something a little lighter than the usual Okker red. The computer showed a number of wines which supposedly should have been drunk some time ago, the above wine being one of them. Purchased in the early 1990's at a sale price of $19.95 and stored in less than ideal conditions, the expectations were not high that it had survived, but survive it did and rewarded us with a surprisingly good flavour profile. The pedigree of this wine from Cordier (Cru Bourgeois) is not particularly grand in the pecking order of Bordeaux wines, but this wine still showed good plum fruit with a toasty black coffee finish. The colour in the glass was dark crimson with very little browning around the edge. I certainly wouldn't recommend keeping it any longer if you found a bottle skulking in your cellar, but it is still showing good maturity. 1986 was a good vintage for Plagnac in the 1980's second only to 1989.
