Jim Barry "The Cover Drive" 2002
Always consistent, Jim Barry wines are not for the faint hearted with the reds being full bodied with heaps of fruit and tannins. The Cover Drive has a "chewey" mouth feel with hints of chocolate and plum. Goes well with lamb or beef. Part of the fruit is sourced from the Coonawarra which being a lot cooler than the Clare Valley offsets the ripe plumminess adding some elegance and length. From memory during a visit to the winery a couple of years ago I think we were told that about 15% of the cabernet is from the Coonawarra.
At around $21 it is extremely good value for money and you can confidently cellar this wine for 5-10 years.
The current vintage is 2005 and got 4 stars in the latest Cuisine magazine.
