Barossa Valley Estates Ebenezer 1992.
The ocassion was a dinner for 6 marking Deane's birthday. Such a good time was had with great food and wine that the character of the wine is a bit of a hazy memory, but in the words of the hostess, it was PBG (pretty bloody good) and did we have some more? Sadly it is another "lost soul" in the cellar and even if we still had a case of it, we'd be hard put to leave it alone until the lot was drunk.
My cellar program which sources its information from Robin Bradleys Gold Book of Australian wines says that it is drinking at its peak now and none of us would argue with that. It also says that it is drinking good for at least another 10 years if you have enough will power. My philosophy is that if it's drinking well now, why give it the chance to spoil?
Fruit for the Ebenezer range of wines are picked predominantly from 30 to 80 year old Barossa vines ensuring that the wines are rich and full bodied with intense varietal and regional character. This bottle consisted of a typical Bordeaux blend, 60% cabernet savignon, 22% malbec and 14% merlot with 4% cabernet franc fermented in both French and American oak. Rich flavour and soft tannins made this wine one to savour.
If your lucky enough to have some in your cellar, I'm available Mon - Sunday to help you drink it!
