Tasted- 29th March 2009

1999 Woodstock Shiraz.

Bottled in 2001 after 18 months in American oak hogsheads, this wine showed none of the sweet vanilla taste associated with this type of oak. Extremely well integrated, neither the fine tannins or soft fruit outshone the other. I thought there was a slight smokiness on the palate and my fellow drinker said the nose reminded her of violets. Age has mellowed any "up front" characters usually associated with South Australian Shiraz, the finish is on the dry side and is drinking at its peak right now.
