The first wine of the week back in May 2007 was the 100% Cabernet from this vintage. The 100% Shiraz '98 was tried last in August last year. It was felt that both wines were at their peak and this wine falls into that category although the suspicion is that the fruit has fallen off and it has started back down the slope. The Touriga and Malbec give it a more savoury and gruntier flavour and with the subdued fruit, the wine has a distinct European feel to it rather than up-front Okker.
This was the orphan in the cellar, while we still have a couple of the others. We'll be drinking them soon as it appears these 10 year old wines (bottled in '99) should be enjoyed before they fall over.
