Taylors Eighty Acres Shiraz/Viognier 2005 - 7 March 2010

Taylors wines are unashamedly commercial, but produce good wines to a price bracket.

This is the third time we've tried this wine over the last 6 months and it continues to amaze in the bangs per buck category for quality.

Intense clean fruit flavour without any hint of jammy-ness, there is an acid structure which cuts through the fruit, probably due to the added Viognier. No indication is given to the proportion of this grape, but its' addition certainly lifts the flavour profile while still giving the impression of being beautifully smooth. We polished off this bottle in very quick time accompanied with rib-eye steak and mushroom sauce.

The label describes plum fruit flavours. There might have been a hint of that but had much more like blackberry with the touch of spice also described on the label. We sourced some on the web from Liquorland last night at just around $16.50 including delivery. What vintage it will be is unknown until it arrives, but if it is not the 2005, it will be interesting to compare. The RRP is $19.00.

If you find any 2005 (and at the $15.50 price, buy it by the truckload. It has a cellaring potential of 8 years so you can keep it for another 3 with confidence.
