Lindemans Reserve- Cabernet Merlot 1999
|
Although a commercial lable, this wine is exceptional value especially if you can track it down "on special" which it often can be found. From memory this vintage was purchased from Woolworths at $13.95 from an "retail" price of $17.95 and wine prices having beaten inflation despite the government lumping taxes on, I would imagine you would pick up the current vintage (2004-5?) for around the same price if you pick your moment.
Very smooth, with flavours of blackberry and chocolate, it is what Aussie red wine on a winters night is all about. It's a couple of years since we opened the last bottle, but it still tastes just as good and the other half dozen still in the cellar should be good for at least another 5 years.
I think the '99 was a very good year for this particular blend and perhaps later vintages may not keep quite as well,. If you have some of this in yours, be confident that it is still in its prime and drinking well.
